Upgrading to RAID Controller

Currently, I have (4) SATA hard drives in a RAID 1/0 configuration on
an onboard Intel RAID controller. My OS and programs/data are already
installed.

I want to upgrade the RAID controller to the Adpatec 2420SA controller
PCI card and use the same RAID 1/0 configuration. Will I lose my data
when I do this upgrade?

Thanks!

1. Very likely you will loose your filesystem.
2. I have made very bad experiences with an ADAPTEC SATA RAID
controller.

The Areca raid controllers seem to be getting good reviews
from people. Seem to be worth the price.

I don't recommend switching. Is something wrong with the Intel

The problem with a PCI card is you'll lose the speed. SATA drive
have much greater throughput then ATA. Let alone, sticking it on th
bus

Nope

Nope.

Let alone, sticking it on the bus.

Loads of bandwidth with a PCI-X bus.

Thanks - I new he was an idiot. Yes there is likely something wrong
with the onboard Intel Controller --besides separate card for RAID
control is better -should have done it originally.

Now, do you know if we will have to do a fresh OS install, programs,
data etc if we switch to this Adaptec card? Thanks again.

If you say so.
besides, separate card for RAID control is better

Not really, unless you need the extra features like onboard processor
and cache or specialized RAID levels.

Nope, just roll back your backup on the newly setup config.
