Upgrading system

I am running 3.2Ghz proccessor with intel pentium 4 ht, with 128mb pci-e
video card, and 2 gb of ram.

Is it worth upgrading this system or buying a completely new system once
windows vista comes out?

I am also looking for a new graphics card that will be able to support aero,
any suggestions?

The hardware specifications for Vista have not been published, if they are
even finalized. For prognostication on what hardware to buy, try the PC
press, for example: PC Magazine (www.pcmag.com) and CNet (www.cnet.com)

Looks like a perfectly fine machine as is!

Since Vista is a year off, wait until its specs are finalized before investing
in something specifically for vaporware.

god yes you can upgrade a pentium 4,you can add more ram if you havent
already wich will make programmes run faster, add a second hard drive as a
slave drive, add dvd-rewriters and cd-rewriters.i do sugest definantly more
ram,256 or ram is a good cheap upgrade at £27-99.if you do not play loads of
great grafical games on your pc then i would go 4 the 2d grafic card its
quiet ample.or you can go for the 3d grafic card the thing with a 3d they are
expensive and require a extra fan, some 3ds come with a fan built in but this
can be bulky so look inside your pc tower and see if there is enough space
for a 3d with built in fan,you can buy them without a fan but then you would
have to buy a fan that slots in to a pci socket so using up more space
again,so choice 2d wich is cheaper and doesnt requiere a fan or 3d wich is
expensive and reqires a fan?your choice?

did you read the question?? He has 2GB RAM
And most likely that 128MB graphics card will run aero, for NEWer games it
might be on the small side...

You obviously either did not read the OP's post or you are trying to make a
funny comment (which failed.)

What you suggest would be a great downgrade to his current system.

There is no need, your machine is clearly near the top of the line as
it is.

No, I'm not rich enough to buy the latest.

Is there a question re. Pentium 3's?

Yes. Though XP and Win2k will both run on p1 class chips (slowly),
there's no telling what Vista will want. My suspicion is that a p3 will
be adequite if you give it enough RAM.

Agreed, but what I meant really was that I could see no question re PIII's,
suggesting that Charlie's excuse was more than a little lame.. :)

Sure, I make plenty of mistakes, and if it is brought to my attention, I
simply acknowledge the mistake, try not to make the same one again and go on
trying to help people. Sometimes I even find my own mistake later and
repost the error. You can search my "handle" in
Microsoft.public.office.setup for May 1 & 2 to see what I mean.
