Upgrading security-workgroup-file from Access 97 to 2000 or higher

Hi guru's ;-),

I know about the problems with upgrading Access 2.0 to 2000 (unusable
workgroup-security file etc), and I know MS advices against upgrading
the security file, but I went and tried it anyway (I upgraded an Access
97 original to 2000) and it seems fine... Am I up for trouble later or
is it safe?

thx in advance

Yes but is the risk is higher than the usual risk... With Microsoft
(and computers), any change has a risk... 8( Upgrading from Win98 to XP
also has a change of failure...

And of course, there will be a backup, but the question is if the time
to rebuild a security-file is usefull. I'm not sure if MS advises
against upgrades because of the Access 2.0 - issues or because they
know of trouble with Access 97 - upgrades too. :/

I think there are some changes in the way the Security Manager works. There
are also some changes in a few of the permissions levels. Other than that,
they are close to the same. If you have your PID documentation from the
original security setup, it shouldn't take over an hour or two to reset the
security.

I wouldn't use the addin, since I don't believe it would transfer properly
across versions. Better to use the code.
