Upgrading RAM on a Compaq Presario

I've had a Presario 1200Z for aboutP four years and upgraded its RAM to 256K
a couple of years ago. To further give it a boost, is it possible to replace
the 256K RAM board with a 512K or is the laptop not designed to accomodate
that?
If possible, what are the specifics for a 512K board to look for?

This machine currently has XP Home and apparently is not upgradeable to
Vista. And that's okay by me, until I pick up a new machine in a year or so.

The Presario has served me well over the past years.

Accirding to www.kingston.com your Presario 1200Z notebook has 64mb of
built-in RAM and a single slot which can accept up to a 512 mb SODIMM
module but they do not offer one at present.

I couldn't find this exact model listed at www.crucial.com

Other RAM manufacturers do list 512 mb modules for your model, such as
http://www.memoryx.net/pc6-18450.html but I would approach this
upgrade cautiously as the support for the 512 mb modules may not be
100% reliable.

Good luck

Why ask here? This has nothing to do with the OS.

Ask in a more appropriate group.

It is a hardware question and this is a hardware newsgroup so it is on
topic.

This is a group dealing with how XP works, or doesn't work, with it's
h/w.

What memory his board needs has NOTHING to do with the OS.

So, the question is out of place HERE.

I asked a question in here a couple of weeks ago about my dvd-rw and it was
answered quite easily and helpfully so to say it is not a group for hardware
questions is simply NOT TRUE. the group is called
microsoft.public.windowsxp.hardware after all. Note the hardware part. I
really dont understand what your problem is with this persons concerns.
