Upgrading ME to XP

B

Bob Leilich

I have Windows ME, which is very unstable. Will upgrading
to XP give me the same results as reformatting and making
a clean install (and saving time)?

If I make a clean install, how can I replace the Microsoft
software (WORD, Excel, Powerpoint) that was factory pre-
installed? (I have the OEM disks.)

Any advice is much appreciated. Bob Leilich

Take some advice, back up your important data and install
Windows XP from scratch. It's not a good thing to install
one over the other. Too much gets crossed over and causes
even more problems. If you have OEM versions of the
Office software you should be able just to reinstall it
once you have XP loaded. Just make sure that you have
your product id's available before you slick and reload.
Good luck.

your programs in mention may be saved to a disk and reinstalled yes cleanly.
You need to find the correct folder with the .exe of those programs, usually
in your save portion and also usually a zip file contains those programs.
Takes some effort but if you savy enough you will find em. I would just
purchase a new current version to be happy, but not necessary if ya got 2000
beyond for most part.

There seems to be a consensus about going with a clean
install. I will fortify myself with Valium or a couple of
martinis and follow your sound advice. Thanks.
