Upgrading Me to XP - Q

I currently have Windows ME and on X-mas I'm getting XP! (I can tell because of the box, and theres an open spot). I was wondering, when I upgrade will I stil have the same programs I currently have that I have downloaded, or will it erase all of these and make my comp seem as new?

Hi,

An upgrade will retain existing programs. Part of the installation is an
upgrade advisor that will notify you of known incompatibilities. Some
programs may require a patch or upgrade, some may run fine in compatibility
mode. Some should be uninstalled before upgrading. You should also read
