Upgrading Internet Explorer

My home PC came with Windows 2000 Professional. It also came with Internet Explorer Version 5.00.2920.000 installed in it. However, internet security software I now want to install specifies that I must have Internet Explorer 5.01 with Service Pack 2 or later (5.5 RECOMMENDED). I seem to meet the other requirements specified for this security software. How do I update Internet Explorer? Might there be problematic prerequisite specifications I must meet to support the later versions of Internet Explorer
My directory shows Internet Explorer was "created" on my C Drive on 5/13/2000 and modified 12/7/1999 (?). I assume it has not been updated nor patched, etc since it was installed
Thank you.

If you do a Windows Update, one of the updates should be
the latest version of IE.
