Upgrading From An Upgrade

I have Windows ME Upgrade Edition, and I want to install Windows XP Home
Upgrade Edition over it. Will the Windows XP installer let me do it? At
least one retail storefront states on its web site that I will need a full
version of Windows 98, 98 SE, or ME at some point for the install.

If you launch the Upgrade from Me when Me is running you should not have any
problems. OK, so just boot up your Me system, install the XP disk [Upgrade
Edition - save some money, if you qualify buy the Academic Edition of XP Pro
Upgrade] and the options window will appear.

Do not install immediately, but take a few moments to run and interpret the
feedback from Compatibility Checks. If you need take no further action, then
go on with the Upgrade. However some CD applications will require an upgrade
to be compatible with XP as will earlier Nortons applications.

You need a full version somewhere in the upgrade chain. If Windows ME
was an upgrade version, what was it an upgrade to? Was that a full
version? Still got it?

The upgrade will only look for a prior version and won't care if it is
an upgrade or full version. I had one product that was a bitch to
install because its upgrades had to be installed sequentially starting
from the full version. Not so with Windows installs.
