Is there an article available that "Step-by-steps" the process of loading the
64 bit version? ie. How and what to backup, obtaining drivers, and anything
else needed to make the transistion go well.

You can't "upgrade" from 32-bit to 64-bit, it will need to be a clean
installation.

You won't find a guide, because every install is going to be different.
Common sense needs to go here. First, do you need 64-bit? If not, eschew
it and stick with 32-bit Windows. If you do need 64-bit Windows, then
research your PC and all its peripherals for drivers. No 64-bit drivers, no
device.

The Vista x64 installation is pretty straightforward and almost identical to
its x86 counterpart except that a clean installation is required.

It's the clean installation that scares me. I haven't done one of those
since the days of DOS. I'm not sure where thngs are stored anymore. I
guess Ill be alright. For all the apps I use, I have the installation disks,
so I should be OK. Wish me luck.

There is nothing to be scared of, I have done clean installs with both x86
and x64 all the time and there is nothing spectacularly different in
procedures. In the case of x64 its just mandatory. In fact, with Vista x86,
when you do an upgrade from XP, you are basically doing a clean install, it
removes the previous installation of Windows completely and retains your
applications, files and settings.

on the cutting edge. I'll use my common sense (at least somewhat) and
proceed with caution. Thanks again.
