Upgrading from 2000 to XP

I notice on the Windows XP upgrade box it doesn't say anything about upgrading from 2000. It only mentions 95, 98, ME. Can you not use 'XP Home Upgrade" to upgrade from Windows 2000 pro?

Greetings --

Win2K can be upgraded to WinXP Pro, but not to WinXP Home. That
would be why Win2K wasn't listed as a qualifying product on the WinXP
Home Upgrade box.

Only Windows XP Professional can upgrade over Windows 2000.

As the Windows XP Home Edition packaging states, XP Home can only
upgrade over Windows 98 or ME.

If you wish to install XP Home, a "clean install" will be required:

The Windows XP CD is bootable and contains all the tools necessary
to partition and format your drive. Follow this procedure and allow
Windows XP to partition and format your drive:

NOTE: It would be best to physically disconnect all your peripheral hardware
devices, except the monitor, mouse and keyboard, before installing XP.

1. Open your BIOS and set your "CD Drive as the first bootable device".

2. Insert your Windows XP CD in the CD Drive and reboot your computer.
3. You'll see a message to boot to the CD....follow the instructions.
4. The setup menu will appear and you should elect to delete the existing
Windows partitions, then create a new partition, then format the primary
partition (preferably NTFS) and proceed to install Windows XP.

5. Clean Install Windows XP

6. After Windows XP is installed, visit the Windows Update website
and download the available "Critical Updates".

7. After installing the critical updates, be sure and visit the support website
of the manufacturer of the computer to download and install any
available Windows XP compatible drivers, such as video adapter
and audio drivers.

8. If you happen to run into any installation difficulties, use the following resources:

Carey,

This is exaclty what I was looking for as well - I've just got a laptop with W2000 Pro on it, but my XP upgrade is home edition. Could you tell me, before I do the clean install, whether I'd lose any functionality/features from haveing XP Home vs 2k Pro?

Many thanks

After performing a "clean install" of Windows XP Home Edition,
visit the support website of the manufacturer of your laptop and
download/install all the available Windows XP compatible hardware
drivers designed for your specific laptop model.

Thanks - but I was wondering if I lose anything from having home XP against having Pro W2K?

Does the "clean install" work when you have the XP upgrade software, not the full version? Many thanks
