I have 5 machines bought with a Windows XP licence that
had Windows 2000 installed on when first built. I now
wish to upgrade to XP.

Is it possible to upgrade to XP using the exisitng XP
Product key?

I DO NOT want to re-build due to client data etc.

I DO NOT want to buy individual XP upgrade disks to
perform this as I already have the XP licence.

If the new computers shipped with a Windows XP Product Key
(license) and an OEM version of Windows XP, then you cannot
upgrade over Windows 2000 since OEM versions do not have
upgrade capability. A "clean install" would be required.

I would suggest contacting the computer manufacturer and ask
if they would be willing to exchange the OEM Product Keys
(licenses) for Volume Licensing, which would permit an upgrade.
You would need to use a Volume License Windows XP installation
CD in conjunction with the Volume Licensing Product Key.

Not quite clear what you mean by 'existing key'. If you bought a Win
XP CD with a Volume license for five machines then I think that ought to
cover an upgrade install (it is not an OEM CD in the sense usually
used). But it may be a CD that only handles clean installs, OEM version
style. Best is to try and see; boot the Win2000, run the XP CD from
it, take Install and see if it offers Upgrade as a continuation. But
you must have either a separate XP product key for each machine, *or*
such a Volume license CD and appropriate license
