Upgrading from 2000 to XP

I have a computer with 2000 Pro on it and wish to upgrade to XP Home. The
case has a 2000 Pro product key on it. I've been told that I can install XP
(not sure if this means Home or Pro) and use the 2000 Pro product key. Is
this really true?

No. You will need a different key for Windows XP. Also, you will not
be able to do an in-place upgrade of Windows 2000 to Windows XP Home.
You can do an in-place upgrade of Windows 2000 to Windows XP
Professional. An in-place upgrade is to upgrade the operating system
while keeping your current programs and settings, without a formating of
the drive. You can however use Windows 2000 as a qualifying product to
install the upgrade version Windows XP Home but only if you do a clean
install. Clear as mud isn't it?

Thanks John

Thought it was too good to be true! Think I'll try to obtain a Windows 2000
disk and reinstall that.

I have a printercopierscanner that i'm trying to install on my computer. The
printer works but we can't get the scanner to work.

Visit the manufacturer's web site for technical support. You should
start a new post in an appropriate newsgroup and give the post a
significant subject line if you want further advice from other users in
these newsgroups. Indicate the name and model number of the
printer/scaner as well as the operating system on which you are trying
to use it.

So from what i understand is that you can not upgrade window 2000 pro to xp
home unless it is a clean Install

That's correct, you cannot upgrade Windows 2000 to XP Home, it has to be
a clean install.

Hello mamatissy,

Insert the xp disk and after the autstart opens the XP window, choose update.
But make sure to backup your data before.

Best regards
