Upgrading a windows 98 machine with XP PRO full version

If it's a OEM version you have only 1 option. Format the HDD and install XP
Pro. If it is a retail version then just boot to the XP CD and install it. I
would suggest you backup ALL your data and do a complete format and install
a clean copy of XP on a HDD format NTFS. Upgrades are always Iffy.

from the full version.

Boot from the CD. Choose "upgrade" from the choices offered.

If you're having trouble finding that choice, my guess is that
you don't have a full version at all, but the OEM version
instead. Many people confuse the OEM version with the Full
version. The OEM will *not* do an upgrade, just a clean
installation.
