Upgrading 2000 to XP question

When doing an upgrade from 2000 pro to XP pro, should all critical updates be
performed before upgrading? Or is it safe to just upgrade without the
critical updates?

The 2000-XP upgrade is going to overwrite the majority of your system files
anyway. Running Windows Update on the 2000 machine before the upgrade
won't -hurt- anything, though.

I would recommend that you perform the upgrade offline (not attached to the
Internet), and then enable the Windows XP firewall before re-connecting to
the Internet to patch your XP installation.

Have you considered a dual boot? Each system has its good points and since
you already have Windows 2000 installed, why not have a dual boot? The two
systems work great if 2000 is installed before XP. A boot choice screen
comes up at startup and either system comes up. I have 2000 installed on
Drive C and XP on a separate D hard drive. I have a lot of experience in
Networking and I find 2000 easier to use in the Networkm world and XP
easier in a strictly local environment.

Thanks. I did do the 2000 critical updates before updating to XP. I also
didn't mention that there were _42_ critical updates to install. :)
