upgraded from nt4.0

i upgraded a server from nt4.0 to 2000 and cannot get active directory started
i keeps saying domain doesn't exsist. Do I have to use a registered Domain

I set one up previously without and it worked but I can't remember how I did it

I am stuck. any suggestions ?

Why not read up a little on NT4 to W2K upgrades? It might help you ask
better questions. Is the NT4 server a standalone server in a workgroup? Is
it a PDC? Is it a server which is diconnected from its original NT4 domain
and using a cached login? Is this server a member-server in an existing NT4
domain? Have you tried configuring the NT4 server to join a workgroup and
then run dcpromo? What SP is NT4 when dcpromo was run?

Whats obvious is that the domain can't possibly exist unless you are
upgrading a PDC.
