Hi,
I work in a large corporation and am being told I must schedule an upgrade
from Office 2000 to 2003. I am reluctant because I do not know the affects
this will have on my access 2000 database that uses a fe and be and
accommodates over 80 users accross a network. Since I must upgrade, please
advise.
Do I have to upgrade the database itself?
I would like to, but am very nervous.
Thank you, charlie

It should not be a problem, but do a good backup of your database anyway.
Just leave the databases in A2000 format. Unless you need the latest and
greatest, like XML, the old format is fine.

When you get the databases back up and running under 2003, on each one go to
Tools, Options, General tab and turn off Track Name AutoCorrect.

If you are emailling from Access, be prepared for an Outlook 2003 'feature'
which will warn you that you are sending out an email - for each email. I was
sending out up to 150 individual emails at a time form Access and had to
click OK 150 times. There are ways to work around it such as the ClickYes app.

Another Outlook 2003 'feature' is that it blocks incoming emails with an
..mdb attachment! Isn't that special. Usually zipping up the file fixes it and
compressing before emailling is a good idea anyway.

Also your users will need to get use to a new warning each time they open up
a database. Again there are ways to stop this from happening.

Thanks to both of you who responded. I do feel more comfortable about the
upgrade because I didn't receive any responses that were too alarming. Your
responses were very helpful.
Charlie
