Upgrade XPSP2 Home OEM to XP Pro

Apologies for what may seem a dumb question. I'm considering buying a full
XP Pro w/SP2 Upgrade directly from Microsoft. Currently I'm XP Home SP2
OEM.
My question concerns any future need to format/reinstall. Currently I have
my original XP gold slipstreamed with SP2 for that purpose.
If I bought the above and needed at some stage to reinstall Windows...how
would I go about it? Just use the XP Pro CD or install Home first then use
the upgrade CD?

With the Upgrade CD, you just need to insert the XP Home CD when the Upgrade
process "requires" to check for the Upgrade qualifications. XP Home does not
have to be installed. However, you do need to keep the XP Home CD.

That's interesting. Thanks for the info. Am I right in assuming that
buying Pro from MSFT then "promotes" me from OEM to "Full" as far as MSFT
Support goes? (That's not the reason I'm thinking about this.)

No need to purchase from Microsoft, try looking for discounted sources.
Newegg is a good place to start.

Don't ship to Canada. Most sources I've looked at weren't worth the effort
of making sure I got a non OEM version.

Just out of curiosity, why upgrade to Pro? Are there particular features
you need?

It was just a thought. I like the remote desktop and encryption features.
I'm only thinking about it, probably wont go for it. I'll wait a couple of
years and plump for Vista most likely.

Thanks.

Some limited features of XP Pro can be added to XPH, which was why I was
curious.

Thanks again,

mikkl
