upgrade win98 to win2000, continuous reboot problem

R

Richard

Hi there,
I have tried 2 things, 1st upgrading my Emachine with
win98se to win2000, it would not operate properly because
of the NTSF system. So I went ahead and did a clean
install with format of my drive. After experiencing a
slow install, and a freeze up finally got it done. Now I
am finding it very difficult to do anything with out tis
message coming up and my computer rebooting after (1 min)
when this message comes up, here is the message it says>
C:\winnt\system32\lsass.exe terminated unexpectantly with
status code 128. The system will shut down.
I have read a few posted messages about this and read
the replies saying to go to one of the listed websites to
download I assume the patch or virus remover. The problem
with that is I don't have enough time to preform this
without that shut down message popping up in about 5 mins
after rebooting? What can be done about this? I am in
propmt need of my computer at home for bussiness.

I don't have enough allowable time to perform on of these
website actions. What other possible solution could there
be?

Restart the computer.
As soon as you see the Windows desktop, click Start|Run. Then type
cmd

and press Enter.
Then type;

shutdown -i

In the Remote Shutdown Dialog that opens, do the following:

Click Add, type your computer name into the Add Computers dialog box, and
then click OK.
In the "Display warning for" field, type 9999.
Type the following text in the Comment box:

Delay Lsass.exe shutdown.

Click OK. Then download and install this patch.

Note that it requires service pack two to be installed. So you may need to
download (on another machine) and install a service pack while not connected
to any network, then install the patch. You'll want these ones as well.

The network download for SP4 is here.
