Upgrade to XP home from ME makes PC run slower why? How to fix?

Have you run Disk CleanUp and Disk Defragmenter?

What are the system specifications of the computer? It may well be
that you simply have a slow computer. particularly if it is old enough
to have shipped with WinMe.

My first guess is limited RAM.
How much ram do you have in the system?
What speed processor?

Many problems seen in this group are caused by upgrading from Windows
ME. It is far better to backup any data that you want to keep and to
do a clean full install of Win XP. If have an upgrade copy of XP, at
some time during the install you will be asked to provide the
qualifying product. Just put the ME CD in at that point and the XP
install will continue.

And far more are very successful.
Better to check the hardware as others stated before possibly wasting time
on a reload.
It is another myth that an upgrade to Windows XP usually causes problems.
 
All your drivers compatible with Windows XP?
If you do not have 256mb RAM, that may be the problem.
How about the processor? 500mhz or better.
Those and others depending on your needs.
Microsoft minimum and even recommended are to low for many.
Your older computer may not economically be up to the task.
