I am planning to upgrade the Motherboard, CPU and memory and I know I will
need to do a repair install of windows xp. I have an original copy of xp
(not oem) have slipstreamed the sp2 with the XP on a new CD and have backed
up my data to another drive.
Upon upgrading the hardware I am planning to boot from the CD to do the
repair install. Is there anything I am missing or any suggestions how to
make this less labor intensive?
Thanks so much for any feedback

Sounds to me like you have it covered. Make sure you have your Product Key
handy.

I recently went through the same thing, including running a repair
install with a slipstreamed CD. The installation was SO screwed up that
I restored from a cloned drive and ran the repair from my original CD
and then merely downloaded all the required updates when I was done.

Thanks so much for the replies. Just to clear the air since I have SP2
installed could I do a repair install from the original XP disk and then
install SP2? I read somewhere that this is not possible because the original
Windows XP disk will stop if it finds SP2 installed.
I appreciate any light you can shed on this.

I was in the same situation as you. I didn't bother with a repair install.
Just do a clean install. It's worth the time and effort IMO.

Hi,

You have to do the repair with the slipstreamed disk containing SP2. Setup
will balk if you try to repair an SP2 system with a non-SP2 install disk.
