Upgrade or build new?

I have a Dell Dimension 8100 that has been great so far but is slow for
video editing. It has:

160G HD
256MB RAM
P4 1.3
Pioneer A06 DVD-R
USB card

The cost to upgrade the processor to Powerleap/2.6 is $260. Then, I'm
sure to need RAM and Dell RAM is not cheap. This computer is a bit
older than three years. I'm thinking I'm better off building a new one
and moving the HD, DVD burner, USB card, etc. to the new machine. Or
is the $260 investment worth it?

Opinions? Thoughts? Places to purchase inexpensive items?

TIA!

I'd buy a new box, mobo/cpu/fan combo, and memory and build a new one.

You can rehab your old one with used/spare parts, etc and have a back up
system for emergencies.

Agreed. This one is a no-brainer. You're much better off starting
resh. -Dave

I believe that motherboard requires RDRAM, in which case it should not
be upgraded.

That is correct. I think I'm going to get a barebones box and move the
good parts over.

Any sites with good prices? TigerDirect.com seems pricey.

They may not be the cheapest, but I like Newegg - They ship fast, and I've
never had a problem with them.

Try pricegrabber.com. There are several sites similar to
pricegrabber.com, but I forget their names. Be sure to check the
customer reviews at newegg.com.
