I've a Dell P3 933 mhz desktop. Since upgrade the entire mechine will
cause winXP not function and I don't want to spend extra $ just to buy
another almost defunct OS while Vista almost release. I am thinking of
simply replace it with a P3 1.40mhz CPU and add more SDRAM would
temporary do the tricks run the application properly even thought it is
slow.

My Question is, if I do that, will my winXP run normal and properly
after I replaced a new CPU and add more memories?

Zillions thanks in advance.

Probably not. If you place XP on a machine that had one of the 9X versions
of Windows, you also need to update all the drivers for your hardware
(motherboard, video, sound, etc. Did you run the upgrade advisor prior to
installing the XP product? If not, you may have hardware that is not
compatible with XP.

Run a product that identifies all the hardware (Belarc advisor or Everest)
to find out exactly what hardware is installed in the system, go to that
manufacturer's web site and download the XP drivers for the hardware,
install and see if that fixes your problem.

A faster processor and more memory will speed up a functioning machine but
won't fix a non-functional one. Also, you may have to run a repair install
of XP if you upgrade the processor, compounding your problems.

Would you like to be a little bit more specific, such as what
was the original upgrade, i.e., from another OS to Windows XP
or what? And second, the particular Dell model name and number
just to rule out any potential hardware issues.

However, if everything is compatible after making the hardware
upgrade or swap, there would need to be a repair installation of
XP at the very least.

The Origin OS in this Dell P3 already upgraded to winXP pro. Hardware
was a Dell inel 933 mhz with 128 meg sdram desktop. Run misery slow. I
am thinking of pull the CPU out and replace it with P3 1.4ghz CPU along
an extra set of 512 meg sdram. Do you think it will run properly after
i did that? Everything in it remain untouch.
