Upgrade is failing

I have tried to upgrade several times from Windows 98se to
either XP Home, XP Proffesional, or 2000 Proffesional, and
I continue to get the same error. I was told to contact
Microsoft Tech Support and give you this error number. FDFF58h
I really hope that someone can help me. If someone could
get back to me ASAP, I would really appreciate it. I've got
a business to run, and the upgrade is essential. Thanks.

We need more than that.
The number you gave appears to be a memory address. XP is
more picky about memory. You may ned to replace your
memory. If your RAM is failing, XP is likely to notice
before Win98. You need to buy the best RAM. Saving money
on RAM usually wastes more money and time than it's
worth. Crucial, Kingston, PNY are all good. If you buy
through the Crucial website you can't go wrong.

I can't say with certainty that the problem is your RAM.
You say you need help ASAP, so I'm telling you what my
best guess is.

At what point in the upgrade do you get the error?
Does Win98 still work? Or did it already get altered by
the upgrade?
How much hard drive space do you have?
How much RAM do you have?
How old is your computer? (XP works best with year 2000
or newer components.)
