What do I need to upgrade from xp home to xp professional? If I have to use
the xp professional upgrade from 98, etc., is there a price break for the
upgrade to xp professional? Also when I update to xp professional do I have
to format the hard drive before installing xp professional?

Thanks Ray

Why do you want to upgrade from XP Home to Pro? Do you know what advantages
you are seeking?

There is a price break for buying XP Pro Upgrade vs the full retail version
of XP Pro, if that is what you are asking.

You do not need to reformat to perform the upgrade.

Hi Ray,
What do I need to upgrade from xp home to xp professional?

A regular WinXP Pro upgrade disk, the same one that works for Win98, WinME,
WinNT4, and Win2000.
If I have to use the xp professional upgrade from 98, etc.,
is there a price break for the upgrade to xp professional?

Unfortunately, no.
Also when I update to xp professional do I have
to format the hard drive before installing xp professional?

Not unless you want to - I wouldn't. It upgrades the same way as any other
upgrade does. It is important to remember that although this appears to be a
small step, it is still an installation of a new Operating System. Backing
up critical data before beginning is still an important point, so don't skip
it.

Either the XP Professioanal Upgrade or the Full version (but not
the OEM version). Since the Upgrade is cheaper, that's what you
should use.

Unfortunately, no. There is no special version for this
particular upgrade.

Also when I update to xp
professional do I have to format the hard drive before installing xp
professional?

No (although you can if you want to, although I don't recommend
it). By definition, an "upgrade" (as opposed to a clean
installation) means that all data, programs, etc. are kept
intact.
However there are no guarantees. However unlikely, it's always
possible that something might go wrong. For that reason it's
prudent to be sure you have a backup of anything you can't afford
to lose before beginning.

That upgrade that does earlier systems is the only one there is - there
is no discount for starting from XP Home. You just run the CD from the
existing installation, take Install, continue with Upgrade
