Hi i have xp home on my pc & i want to upgrade to xp pro
Why? Are you aware that XP Home and Professional are identical except that
Professional includes a few features (mostly related to security and
networking) missing from Home? Most home users don't need and would never
use these extra features and will see no benefits by upgrading.
For details go to

Also note another point, not included in any of the above: Professional
allows ten concurrent network connections, and Home only five.
i got my
friends old pro cd as he now got vista but he has no idea what his
product key was is their anyway of getting it as wanna upgrade for a
while before i buy vista premium or ultimate so i can see which one i
like best. the cd is an oem version for a dell computer mine is a
acer computer would it still work ok? & where do i get info on
getting key gen/product key?
You can *not* do this--for a bunch of different reasons:
1. OEM CDs can do clean installations only, and not upgrades.
2. The license for an OEM version ties it permanently to the first computer
it's installed on. Your friend's OEM version can be moved to your computer
or any other computer.
3. If your friend upgraded to Vista, the Version he upgraded from (that XP
Professional CD) becomes part of his Vista license, and it is not free to be
given away or sold.
4. Your friend needs that CD. If his version of Visata is an upgrade one and
he ever needs to reinstall it, he won't be able to without the CD.
5. You don't have the product key, and probably can't get another one.
6. His Dell version probably wouldn't work on your Acer.
