I have just recently bought an acer 3000l that has XP home edition, with
bluetooth, IR Port etc. However, I need to be on our work network. because of
the home edition, I am unable to see the server and share files with my work
colleagues. As a result, a friend told me that i could upgrade to XP
professional in order to be able to use my office network properly. could you
therefore advice me on how I can obtain patches for this upgrade that will
enable me to get the full functionality of networking?

Are you sure that you need to upgrade? XP Home Edition can't join a
domain or log into a domain, but it can access domain resources. For
details, please see these sites:

If you need to upgrade, buy a Windows XP Professional upgrade CD
(available at computer stores, office supply stores, etc) and run it
on your computer. There are no patches or downloadable files that can
do the upgrade.
