Upgrade from ME to 2K not supported?

I was about to ugrade a Windows workstation running
Windows ME to Windows 2K. While researching this I
noticed Microsoft does not support this. I was curious as
to why, in other words is there something that I should
know before upgrading to 2000? Is there known problems
upgrading from ME to 2000? I don't have a problem with
Microsoft not supporting this I was just curious what I
was about to get into. I have done many upgrades from 98
to 2000 and never had any problems so I am curious if
there are alot of known problems upgrading from ME to 2000.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Windows ME was released after Win2k therefor thre is no
upgrade path. If you do try to upgrade it will treat it
like win 98 but then stop with a cannot find file error
and the upgrade will fail. I have tried it several times
it always fails you will have to use a fresh install and
start from scratch.

Greetings --

Well, for starters, Win2K is the older OS, so it could not
possibly have been designed to perform an upgrade over another OS that
didn't even exist when it was written.

It's not technically possible to perform an upgrade from WinMe to
Win2K. You'll have to back up your data and start with a clean hard
drive.

Before proceeding, though, you'd better take a few minutes to
ensure that there are Win2K device drivers available for your PC's
specific components. There may not be, if the PC was specifically
designed for WinMe. Have you made sure the PC is capable of
supporting Win2K? This information will be found at the PC's
manufacturer's web site, and on Microsoft's Hardware Compatibility
List (http://www.microsoft.com/hcl/default.asp). Also bear in mind
that computers designed for, and sold with, WinMe very often fail to
meet Win2K's much more stringent hardware quality requirements.
