I am beginning to think about upgrading to XP from 98SE.
The first question that comes to mind is compatibility of all the programs
that I am now running on 98SE.
Will I be able to use them on XP?
Is there a web site that can be used to investigate this question?

Yes, I've used www.pcpitstop.com and there is an upgrade
advisor on the XP CD or it can be downloaded from MS at
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/compatibility/default.asp

Run the XP Upgrade Adviser before trying to install XP on your computer. The
adviser will tell you about most software and hardware shortcoming your
system may have, if any.

The Adviser is on the XP CD and can also be downloaded from Microsoft, but
it is a very large program, over 40 MB, so if you have dial-up a download
will not be feasible. In that case, and if you don't already have the disk,
perhaps a friend will loan it to you.

My apologizes for improperly using the word 'upgrade'.
I am looking toward purchasing a new computer with XP.
I know my present computer is not recommended for XP.

The use of the upgrade advisor on PC Pit Stop on your
present computer will report on the program applications you
are using in their present version. If they would be
troublesome, the report would suggest the remedy. You would
have the answer to your question.
