All you need is an Upgrade version, and since it's cheaper that's
what you should probably buy.

But bear one thing in mind. Do you have an installation CD for
your Windows 98SE OEM version? If so, no problem, but if it's
just a Restore CD, you should be aware of a possible
disadvantage. If you ever want to do a clean installation with
your Windows XP Upgrade CD, you can do so by inserting your
Windows 98 installation CD as proof of ownership when prompted to
do so. But if all you have is a Restore CD, you will not be able
to reinstall cleanly and would have to first load 98 from the
Restore CD, then upgrade to XP.

Hi,

An Upgrade version is sufficient. The OEM designation simply means you
cannot move the original Win98 installation to a new machine, it has no
affect on the upgrade path.

An Upgrade will do the job fine. You run the CD from the existing
system. Only potential problem would be that *if* you ever needed to do
a clean reinstall, you would have to restore the original system first

Before starting make sure that your hardware is adequate - a 98 machine
may well not be. You need *more* than the recommended 128MB RAM; I
would want 256, and about a 400 MHz CPU as bottom end; otherwise stay
put. And read Gary Woodruff's article on upgrading to XP at
