Upgrade from 98 to 2000 - PC card slot problem on Compaq Presario laptop

It would be greatly appreciated if someone could help me
out here.
I recently upgraded my Compaq Presario 1800 laptop from
Windows 98 to 2000. I am now having a problem with my PC
card slot recognizing the inserted PCMCIA card. It shows
an error message saying that the system does not recognize
the new hardware. Is there a fix and software patch out
there for this problem?
Thank you for any assistance.

Yes, if you can get connected to the internet with your
compaq or possible with another computer. But, preferable
with your compaq you should be able to update your driver
for your PCMCIA card, for the most part Laptops in
general take different drivers than desktop computers and
should be downloaded from the specific Manufacturer.
Compaq is usually pretty good about this on there web
site, you will probably have to enter your make and model
number of your laptop and you operating system.
