upgrade from 2000 to 2003 domain

At the same time I move my w2k domain to w2k3, I will
replace all my existing DC's with new servers. Has anyone
seen any good white papers or have any suggestions as to
the best way to accomplish this? I have seen
documentation on how to do this without changing hardware.

My overview plan is to install w2k3 server onto one of the
new servers, do the Adprep stuff on the existing w2k DC,
then upgrade the new server to a 2003 DC in a 2000
domain. Once this is stable, repeat the steps on the
other DC in the domain.

OR

Would it be better to install the new server as a w2k
server, promote it to a DC, then upgrade the OS to w2k3???

All suggestions welcome!

Your first idea is the best way to upgrade your network while replacing
hardware:

1) Install Windows 2003 Server on the new hardware and join it to the
Windows 2000 domain as a member server.
2) Run the ADPrep steps to prepare the Windows 2000 Active Directory for
Windows 2003 domain controllers.
3) DCPromo the new 2003 servers to domain controllers.
4) Once domain is stable, transfer any FSMO roles from the Windows 2000
domain controllers to the new Windows 2003 domain controllers.
5) Demote the 2000 domain controllers down to member servers and remove
them from the directory.
