UPGRADE ? and how ?

my current system:

biostar nforce2 mainboard
sempron (barton core) 3000 @ 2340mhz
radeon 9700pro @387/355
1024 twinmos twister pc 3200
audigy2 zs
17' TFT samsung

cod2, BF2,Nfs:MW, FEAR do not run properly anymore in high/medium quality
settings

i plan to upgrade to:

1.) only radeon x800xt AGP

or

2.) 64bit / PCI System

athlon64 x2 3800+
asus 8nsli deluxe
gfx7800 or ati x1800xt


will there be a noticeble increase in CPU performance ??(athlon64 X2 3800 is
only as fast as athlon64 3200 in single core applications and according to
sandra my cpu is almost as fast as athlon 64 3500)
which cpu (x2) will almost double the performance of my overclocked sempron?

any suggestions ? of course the cheaper the upgrade is, the better...

I would just replace the graphics card myself. I just did this upgrade to my
younger brothers system. He has XP2500 oc to XP3200 with 1gb DDR400 and
9700Pro overclcoked to 9800pro speeds and he got a 6800 on Ebay. Unlocking
all the pipelines and increasing the clock speeds to 400/800 its a very good
card and now plays FEAR at 1024 high/medium settings very nicely. I didnt do
extensive testing with it but he has played all the way through Quake 4
without a hitch at high settings.
I believe most of the new games dont benefit much from CPU upgrades and
really require monster graphics cards - COD2 runs like a dog for most ppl
when DX9 is used.
