Hi.

We have Windows 2000 domain with just 2 servers (1x DC and 1x Exchange
2000). We would like to upgrade the servers to Windows 2003 Servers and
Exchange to version 2003. This shouldn't be a problem but we would like to
rename the existing domain also.

I found "Windows 2003 Server domain rename tools" but I also found that
Exchange 2000 is not supported in this procedure. And now my questions:

a.) Is Exchange 2003 maybe supported? I didn't found answer to this
question.
b.) Is this task (renaming a domain) possible with Exchange and how?

Thanks a lot...

Regards, G.

You cannot rename the domain if you have Exchange involved. You would have
to uninstall Exchange and reinstall in the new domain name and then restore
from backup. Your best bet would be to use Exmerge to get all the mailboxes
down to .pst which can then be easily reimported into the users accounts
upon renaming the domain. Renaming a domain was not even possible, without a
lot of work, in windows 2000 and windows 2003 makes it a little easier but
if Exchange is involved then you got some work to do. Why do need to rename
the domain? Usually this is not cost effective, not possible and usually not
needed for any functionality.

Thanks for your answer.
I read in one of the Micrsoft's presentations that SP1 for Exchange 2003
should support domain renaming. Is it the truth?
