Hi! I have a 3 yr. old Dell Latitude running Windows ME
that I was considering upgrading to XP Pro. Our University
offers the full XP package (upgrade?) for $9. I have
downloaded the latest drivers and flash bios for the Dell.
I have also downloaded the 50 meg file from Microsoft to
check my computer's compatability and the possible
conflicts upgrading to XP. My question is how best to
upgrade...

Several people told me that I have to format the entire
harddrive, and then install XP Pro, and then also reinstall
all my other programs.

I was wondering what would happern if I would just upgrade
to XP "over the top" of ME? I would then delete or upgrade
only those few programs that I would need to be compatible
with XP Pro. Please (e-mail address removed) Thank you!

First, run the Upgarde Advisor.

Second, if there are no major incompatibility issues install XP as an
upgrade to ME - works just fine.
