reg. keys were causing it, just update. inf. there are no help files on
microsoft's web site about this problem. just how to repair or give access to
certian reg. files. can someone figure this out and help me. thanks Bill

I ran into this problem recently, but unfortunately, can't tell you how to
get past it, except for this possibility: If your XP install CD is not an
OEM version with other included updates (like a Dell), consider making a
slipstreamed SP2 version of your CD. Then, redo the repair install. This
will apply the SP2 files.

This process is pretty easy if you have a usable XP CD, and enough drive
space. You must also have CD-burning software that can properly create a
bootable CD; not all can. Key is the number of sectors loaded and no
emulation - not all burning software lets you set these value to what they
need to be.

Google "slipstream XP". Here's one site
