Updating recently re-installed XP Pro

Hi,

everything went well to that point when I entered Microsoft update and tried
to install the necessasry updates: All I get is an announcement that
installation failed.
No error codes and nothing more specific reason why.

Can anyone help me atleast where to start to track down the problem?
