Updating Microsoft Anti-Spyware - Is Updater Working?

G

Guest

Would someone please explain my error log as it doesn't
mean much to me. I just want to know if my 'updater' is
current and if it is protecting my system from unwanted
adware/spyware...etc. Am pasting my error log below. I
tried Mr. Walker's suggestions and do not have a clear
answer as to the update problem. It updated again, today,
to the same version, as yesterday. Version 5735. Same
version, different time it was updated:

If you have applied the following patch, then all you should do is try
manually updating more than once then it should download the 5735
definitions.

Right click and "Save target as..."
http://download.spynet.com/ASDefinitions/gcDeterminationData.gcd
http://download.spynet.com/ASDefinitions/gcThreatAuditScanData.gcd
http://download.spynet.com/ASDefinitions/gcThreatAuditThreatData.gcd

Copy/paste these files to Program files/Microsoft Antispyware
Restart MSAS and "check for updates"
Done until MS realize that this is a bug.............."

I have deleted the 'gcUnCompress.dll' (as Mr. Walker had
suggested) and reinstalled the 'newest' version which
is .614, not .416. I do not trust any registry cleaners
and will not touch that at all. Is up to the software to
correct the problem. Not those of us that do not
understand all of the techy stuff. All I want is for my
update and stay at the same update and time until the
next update is released (usually weekly), like it use to
do until this latest version.

Any other suggestions that are a little easier??

Thanks..

Each of the entries represents an update that silently failed, although MSAS
displayed an update success. That's why the update repeats next time.

Just keep trying: eventually it will take. Empty your Temporary Internet
Files between each attempt at a Definition Update.

Hello,

My .temp files are always deleted after I close my
browser and have never had this problem with the previous
BETA version. Just this newest version. Version 614. My
current update is 5735, according to the update window.
It updated to that yesterday and did the same thing
today. Usually is just says 'you have the most current
version' without showing the repetition of updating,
daily.

Thanks for your reply.

I am having a similar issue w/ updates, it appears
that the temp file is where the new downloads are being
kept until completely downloaded and then MSAS B1 should
extract and install the files for the update; however, it
appears that there is an error in the "unzipping" phase of
the installation. I will try a few things and post if they
work,

Today, my update appears to be working. It didn't go
through the same repetition of updating from one version
to the latest version which is 5735. I went through Mr.
Walker's recommendations and they have worked better than
anything else I have read though the updater appears to
forget it is updated and goes through the updating
repetition from time to time. Regardless, love the way
this software has been designed and hope the flaw will be
permanently fixed so that we can all go about doing other
things. Maybe the creaters of Spybot could help
Microsoft. They have an excellent piece of software!
Rarely have had any problems with it.

I have noticed there are 2 updaters in this software.
Giant and Microsoft. Could they be conflicting with one
another or are they suppose to work together?
