** Note ** I'd appreciate anyone who replies, to put the word <<XP Solutionoften comes in from a rewquest such as this. My email is
(e-mail address removed), and here is my question:

I am trying to update from Windows XP-Home Edition to Windows XP-Pro in
order to be able to do Domain Logins, and for compatability with my other
systems.

When I start the Setup Procedure from the CD, from a session in Windows
XP-Home, I get a message which (paraphrased) says: The current version of
Windows Xp is newer than the version being used for the Update.

Of course the Current Version is newer, it has received many updates by the
AutoUpdate feature in Windows XP.

Does anyone know how I can get the update to proceed anyway, and then allow
all the AutoUpdates from that point?

I start from scratch, but that would me a Clean Install, and the loss of
hundreds of programs, configurations, and settings. Frankly, that solution
would make it easier to just go buy another computer with the correct OS on
it.

Assuming you have a "Retail Version" of Windows XP Pro:

You'll need to make a SP2 slipstreamed version of your
current Windows XP Pro, then use the new CD to perform an
"Upgrade".

Either one of the following utilities makes slipstreaming
(integrating) SP2 into Windows XP a breeze:

or

AutoStreamer 1.0.33 (preferred)

Using the XP Pro disk create an installation CD slipstreamed with SP2,
then use that to do the upgrade.

It would be wise to not post your real, unmunged email address. That's
why you get so much spam. And there is no email support here. Asked
and answered in the newsgroup so everyone can benefit.
