updating data sheet links is time consuming - need help

My Powerpoint Presentation has charts whose data sheets link to information
in Excel spreadsheets. To update the charts I must go to every slide
containing a chart and manually open and close each data sheet. Is there any
way to automate this time-consuming task in PowerPoint 2002?
