Sorry about the cross posting, but I'm looking for a quick answer if I can.

Can anyone please tell me if there will be any further updates for XP, XP
SP1 users who do not install SP2? or is it necessary to install SP2 to be
able to get later updates.

Hi Joe,

Crossposting is when you same the same message to multiple groups by placing
all of the group addresses in the header bar. What you have done is
multipost, or sending the same message to multiple groups one at a time.

To answer your question, yes you will still be able to get further updates.
However, there may come a time when file dependencies of new updates rely on
file versions found in SP2, so those updates may not be available to you.
Whatever your reason for not installing SP2, it may be in your best interest
to resolve it and do the upgrade.

Thanks for your reply Rick. The reason for the question was that we are
putting a bit in our monthly Senior Newsletter and there was some conjecture
about whether the updates would be available to the pre SP2 systems.

Fortunately with my multi posting it was only to two groups, this one and
the windows update group so I don't think I caused much hassle there.

I updated my computer with SP2 on the 10th. of August and never had any
problem, also installed SP2 on a number of our members computers and no
trouble there either, so in contrast to a lot that I have read I say well
done Microsoft.

Cya and thanks again.

By the way, although you often hear a lot of complaining about
crossposting, be aware that multi-posting is actually worse.
Multiposting just fragments the thread, so someone who answers in
one newsgroup doesn't get to see answers from others in another
newsgroup.

If you must send the same message to more than one newsgroup,
please do so by crossposting (but only to a *few* related
newsgroups).

Thanks for the advice Ken, I will remember that. In this instance though the
postings were made at different times, but I know now.
