updates to xp will not install

With what error(s)?

My car won't start.. I can get in it and turn the key, but it won't start.

Make sure you only use Internet Explorer when accessing the
Windows Update Website. Also, perform a Disk Cleanup first.

Go to Start > Run and type: CLEANMGR.EXE , and hit enter.
This will start your disk cleanup utility. Make sure to cleanup
your Temporary Internet Files.

Catalog install fails with sp1, then the other errors for
other updates just says fails reinstall on the update
page. they do download. I have tried them one at a time
and together always same thing. It is only the critical
updates all others do install.

Also I have tried shutting down all procesess but windows
processes, so there are no other programs running
(antivirus).

I defragged and cleaned out temp folders, Downloaded Sp1
full(125 meg) tried to install starts then Service Pack 1
setup error- Failed to install catalog files.

It is very likely you have been infected with a virus?
Several disable windows update functions. Blaster virus
can do this. Use ctr-alt-delete to see if a process called
msblast is running. I had the virus on my machine with no
other symptoms then not being able to update windows.
