Updates Interfere with Explorer and Outlook

I installed some updates to my laptop (running 98) from
Microsoft's website over the last weekend. Now, using
Explorer, I cannot download files (e.g., McAfee virus
update files), or when the page has a window box in which
info is to be typed for submission (e.g., a user name and
password), I can't get a cursor in a box or anything to
type in the box. Also, my highest level Outlook page
doesn't display and instead shows a java script error
message. Help!
 
Some updates have been known to cause problems in some computers. Uninstall
the updates from Add/Remove programs.
