Updates don't show in Add or Remove

Last evening Microsoft Update offered 39 updates for this computer club
member's Dell computer. One apparently caused the display to resort to a
Plug & Play monitor with 800 x 600 resolution.

When I go to update history, the suspect is shown as haveing been
successfully installed. When I go to Add or Remove programs nothing shows
after Service Pack 3. Service Pack 3 shows no date of installation. I
believe that I know how this happened, SP3 was installed without the correct
date and time setting (May 2004).

Afterwards, I changed the CMOS battery.
I am beginning to believe that the solution is to uninstall SP3, reinstall
SP 3 and subsequent updates.

Does that sound like the right process?

While in Add/remove programs, do you have the box at the top "Show updates"
checked?
Have you tried to roll back the video driver in Device Manager? Hardware
updates should never be done from MS Update, only from the hardware
manufacturer's site. If rolling back the driver doesn't help, uninstall it,
reboot, then reinstall it from the original media, or from an updated driver
from Dell's site.

Did the CMOS battery prove to be bad? Certain malware programs will change
the system date. Have you ran any anti-virus/anti-malware programs lately?

Since I had no way of reversing the driver installation and it was an
unacceptable issue. I decided that the date issue would be a continuing
problem for the club member. I tried to uninstall SP 3, but "files are
missing." I then installed SP3 from my USB Flash drive. It installed but no
change.

Did a System Restore to Aug 17. Then installed 38 updates, but turned off
the one driver update. Now in the process of installing an additional 9
updates. Microsoft Update has not been offerred for installation. Neither
has Windows Defender, but it is now installed. Neither Windows Defender nor
Malwarebytes found any items.

I can now call the club member and have her pick it up.

Thanks for your assistance.
