updates and "search the net"

I just downloaded microsoft's antispyware and everytime i
try to connect to search for updates, it says "can not
detect internet" but i know that i am connected, whats
going on? Also i dont think it removed my spyware..i still
have a stupid link at the bottom of my screen saying
"search the web" also im still getting popups, but instead
they just come up "webpage could not be found. Whats going on?
