Updates and patches to XP Pro

Bert

I installed WinXP-Pro in June of 03. Since then I've
counted 27 Hotfixes (including today's) listed in the ADD
or Remove Programs. Is there any problem to adding patches
over patches? - this seems somwhat excessive. Does anyone
know if some of these patches have been revised or updated?
Is there any advantage to uninstalling all these patches
then doing a program update once a year?
Thanks.

no.
IIRC none of the XP security patches installation documentation
has indicated any problems. In fact, to update DirectX to its most
secure version - one has no choice but to install Direct X 9.0b over
the previously installed version of DirectX. Be aware that
that Hotfixes maybe not be as stable or as fully tested as
fixes provided by the Service Packs.

If you have a hi speed internet connection
it would be easier to update WinXP Pro using
the Internet/Online Update feature. If your
computer is a client on a WAM/MAN/LAN, the
local system administrator might be able to
automatically update your computer from the
server.

Microsoft has promised to release security update patches
every 2nd Tuesday of the month for Windows XP.

The initial update for Windows XP Pro using a 56k dial
up takes hours and hours to do and even longer if you decide
to do all the updates for IE6, DirectX, WMP, Messenger,
Movie Maker, and Office. It's much shorter to just
update the Windows XP security and hw bugs. I've listed
the microsoft security and Hw bug Knowledgebase numbers
and technical bulletins for patches are listed below for.
The newest XP patch has to do with fixing a FrontPage Extension
security flaw (810217, MS03-051). Microsoft restricts
the listing of its urls for some of its security patches.

Hello Bert,
There is no advantage to removing the patches. As mentioned uninstalling
the patches removes the fixes. Waiting until a SP is released leaves you
vunerable to any worms or hackers.
