how about a update rollup package for xp?

B

Ben

I did a fresh install of Windows XP SP2, Office 2003, and .NET framework
1.1. I went to windows update and behold 81 patches. This doesn't bother
me as much as the fact that I had to run windows update 5 times to get all
of these packages. First there is the windows installer update, reboot,
then there was about 30 or so patches, reboot, 45 more patches, reboot, etc.
I also think it is unfair for Microsoft to make us administrators wait 3
years before SP3 for XP is to be released (according to
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/lifecycle/servicepacks.mspx).

Some suggestions to improve this:
1) Update .NET framework 1.1 so it includes SP1 and its hotfix into 1
package. This will save 2 reboots. Please don't suggestion .NET framework
2.0 because the company standards insist on 1.1.
2) Release a update rollup and an updated iso for us administrators. This
will save me countless hours. (Yes I have a local WSUS server but is still
takes time for the new install to sync and patch itself).
3) Include an updated driver.cab to support todays hardware. A lot has
changed in 2 years. I got bit on a machine with an Intel 1000/GT card. XP
does not recognize this card natively so I had to stop by Intel's website to
get their driver. Then guess what, there was an updated driver on
windowsupdate! Fortunately I had another PC to download Intel's driver on
(yeah yeah I should have kept the driver CD, my own fault).

I am sorry if this is not the right place to post this. If there is a
better group please let me know.
Thanks for letting me vent,
