Your malware detector is probably right. Rename the
file to updated.ex and see what happens.

I agree. There's no updated.exe on my W2K system. Right-click on the
file and select properties. Does it have a Version tab and does that tab
show the Company Name as "Microsoft Corporation"? If not, it's almost
certainly not a valid Windows file.
