Update won't install

I'm trying to install the ESS Technology, Inc. Media
Driver Version 5.12.01.1174 update, but keep getting a
message saying that it failed to install. Anyone have any
suggestions?

I would guess this is a sound card driver. Do you have sound? Do you
have an ESS sound card (or chip on the motherboard)? Are you trying to
download this from the mftr.'s website or from Windows Update? If you
already have sound, then just leave well enough alone.

Be careful with any/all Driver updates from WindowsUpdate web sie. I had
BAD experience with these type of updates. Hell, one even "forced" me to
re-install Windows (2000 at the time) because it "screwed" up too much.
