I have successfully (after a number of glitches) upgraded Win2K to XPPro
today.

I have tried without success to do an update of files. I have
downloaded some preliminary updates through Microsoft Update, including
Microsoft Update Installer 3.1
Update for XP KB898461
Windows General Advantage Validation tool KB892130

but they will not install. A google search of the problem suggested
that I delete all of the files from the SoftwareDistribution folder,
which I did. The files were again downloaded by the update program but
they all failed.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

Well, in the meanwhile I found some additional discussion threads and
was able to individually download and install 2 of the 3 updates.
However, the Windows Installer v.3.1 is not one of them. I have tried
booting in Safe Mode, as well, as when I first tried when booted
normally, I received a message that said Access denied (I am in
administrator mode and have administrator privileges). I received the
same message in Safe Mode.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
