I can't update a win'98 system to xp. I get the blue screen that says I may
have a virus & to runchkdsk/f which can't be run on win'98.

I have run scandskw, every conceivable virus and spy program, registry
checkers and deframented the drive. The win'98 system works fine but I can't
upgrade to xp no matter what I do, and I always get the above blue screen
after win xp setup completes.

What else can I do? Thanks.

Format and start fresh.
I wouldn't want (personally) the leftovers from an old Windows 98 install
floating about anyway. =)

When was the computer new? What is the specification
in terms of RAM, CPU and hard disk size?

There may be no point trying to update if you are going
get lots of driver issues and poor performance by upgrading.

not do an upgrad install? Thanks.

That specification looks fine. When was the computer
new?

What are you using to try to update. Is it an update disk
or a full copy of Window XP?
